People who join sports are usually guided by an instructor who won't just let his students play the game without any know-how. The reason behind this is that the student needs to learn the fundamentals of the sport which is usually taught in theory first to be able to understand the basics of the game before moving on to the actual game.
One important lesson that newbie and pros will always have to exercise when playing golf is the drills. This serves as the foundation for going through the actions until the follow-through to make sure its smooth travel close to the hole as possible.
One of the most important parts of golf is teeing off because a good swing can take the ball closer to the projected target making it effortless to putt then move on to the next hole. Golfers who have a difficult time hitting may either hit a block or slice through it. In both situations, the ball won't travel that far.
A block to the right is caused by a swing path that is too shallow or flat while a slice could be an open club face at impact or an out to in swing path.
A swing path that is either too shallow of flat can cause a block to the right. A slice can be an out-to-in swing path or open clubface at impact.
If you have this problem, here are some tips that can help you change that.
(1) You should first check on your grip because this controls the clubface. Make sure that you form the letter "V" with the thumb and the forefinger of each hand points toward the trailing side shoulder.
You don't need to hold it tight since this keeps the clubface open, which makes it impossible to get a good shot.
(2) Golf swing drills can also be done at home and not just on the golf course. You can check your form and swing by motioning while looking at a mirror.
A golfer should stop the follow-through halfway to the finish to check if this is correct; ensuring that the club's toe points are up in this position. Over the lead hand, the trailing side is released. When done correctly, this can be the slice and block.
(3) Some golfers are not in the right position when taking a shot. This can be avoided by being not too far or too close and checking if the alignment is in the shape of a square. It is best to practice this in front of a mirror so the distance can be noted when this is already being done in the green.
(4) A golfer should check on the divots. If it's too shallow, the golfer might be coming into the ball too much from the inside. You can avoid this by practicing with the golf ball on a side-hill below the feet.
Doing it too deep can pose a problem. This can be fixed by practicing some shots on the side hills with the ball above the feet.
(5) Some golfers may also have a problem with the flat swing. It is advisable to do some drills with your back 6 inches away from a wall and then make some swings. You will know if this is done correctly when your body doesn't make contact with the wall. This can allow golfers to get his/her golf club higher and make the back swing.
Practice makes perfect. So by working on these golf swing drills, you will surely see some improvement once you hit the golf course again.
